WHAT'S THE DOWNTOWN PLAN?

The Downtown Plan is an exciting and unique opportunity for reframing how we experience Powell River's downtown by creating a vision for Marine and Willingdon avenues.

Everyone has an opinion and we need to hear your vision for a thriving and diverse new downtown!

What makes a vibrant downtown pulsating with life, vigor and activity? Downtown should be filled with people, businesses, green spaces, food and retailers. The vibrancy of downtown depends on its beauty, walkability, daytime activities, art and innovation.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

We're in the final phase of community engagement. Join us at Blackberry Fest on August 16 2024!

We'd love to hear your ideas!Downtown Plan at Blackberry Fest Friday 16 August 2024

DESIGN CONSULTATION A HUGE SUCCESS!

We want to thank everyone who attended the Downtown Plan Design Consultation Workshop. The event was packed, which shows how many people are fully invested in this community project. Our thanks also go out to Derek Lee who sketched the terrific ideas people came with for the old arena site at Willingdon Beach and the soon to be decommissioned Westview wastewater treatment plant location at North Harbour.

Students at Brooks Secondary, including members of Brooks Interact, joined our planners to share their ideas about what they'd like to see in the Downtown Plan. If you didn't know, Brooks Interact is a student group devoted to community and committed to "Service above Self; serving Powell River and the rest of the world."

A big thank you to all of the youth who shared their visions for Marine and Willingdon avenues via our Youth Survey. We had over 100 responses!

Staff also gave a presentation about the Downtown Plan to the Seniors Together group. We had many great questions and feedback on the future of downtown.

Thank-you to everyone who has participated in the engagement process to date. Please see Documents for the results of our Phase I and Phase 2 engagement summary reports.

WHAT WE'VE HEARD SO FAR?

In August 2022 we introduced the project to the community at the wildly successful Blackberry Festival. Well over 150 people put their thoughts on cardboard blackberries telling us what they loved about the downtown waterfront and what they would like to see in the future. We have digitized all of the responses. Here is a summary of what we heard:
