Staff have worked to provide a wide range of community engagements that adhered to COVID-19 safety regulations. Online and hard copies were provided to ensure that information was distributed throughout the qathet region.
Highlights of community engagement include:
Over 500 responses in the regional housing needs survey – See Document Library for the survey results within each government.
Several one-on-one interviews with housing industry and Tla’amin in the qathet region
Three virtual round table meetings were held with residents, housing committee members, builders, housing providers, and municipal staff
A virtual meeting was conducted with Tla’amin Housing Committee, staff, members, and elders
Two virtual public open houses with over 20 people represented from the City, Regional District, and Tla’amin.
Next Steps
The qathet Regional Housing Needs Assessment is being finalized and will be presented in March & April 2021. Stay tuned!
The City of Powell River, qathet Regional District, and Tla'amin Nation are working together to develop a regional housing needs assessment.
A regional housing needs assessment will:
Help provincial and local governments to better understand and address housing shortages.
Inform decision-making to enable access to safe and stable housing.
Provide strategies that reflect the unique needs of each community and the region as a whole.
The City of Powell River, qathet Regional District and Tla'amin Nation have partnered to complete the Regional Housing Needs Assessment as part of the Union of British Columbian Municipalities (UBCM) Housing Needs Report Program.
