Ideas, Stories, Passions, Recommendations, Questions and Concerns shared at Community Conversations

The Regional Social Planning team extends deep gratitude to everyone who came out, spoke up, listened and learned at our Community Conversations on Health and Housing.

A total of 80 people attended two recent workshops at the Town Centre Hotel, and they left feeling inspired to strengthen the fabric of community by deepening connections and relationships, and creating a region where everyone thrives.

There have been eight public engagement events, and 236 people participated!

Thank you for attending!

What makes a thriving community? A sense of belonging through economic inclusion, housing, education, childhood supports, access to healthcare, diversity and the social, economic and physical environments that we live in.

A What We Heard Report will soon be shared on this engagement page summarizing the community dialogue sessions. Click Follow This Project on the left margin and you'll be notified when the report becomes available and other updates.

UNITE Project - Understanding Each Other Together

Social stigma is a major challenge in a thriving community. People with substance use or mental health issues are branded with that perception, and it can push them to the shadows.

UNITE, a BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services project, is combating stigma with a three-part mini-documentary series based on the related stories of people living with mental health and addiction challenges.

As we heard in our public engagements, access to healthcare is essential for a thriving community.

The three featured storytellers in this video describe how stigma and discrimination has impacted their health, the care they received throughout their lives, and their ability to fully reach their potential.
