Powell River Awards Contract for Airport Paving Upgrades

Powell River, B.C. – At the Regular Council Meeting held on May 8, 2025, Powell River City Council awarded a contract to BA Blacktop Ltd. for the repaving of the general aviation apron, taxiway-bravo and the asphalt parking lot at the Powell River Airport (YPW).

This infrastructure project, commencing on Monday, May 12, 2025, is fully funded through an external grant from the Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program (CERIP). The work is expected to be completed by June 12, 2025, weather permitting.

Mayor Ron Woznow expressed the City's appreciation for the funding support, stating:

The City acknowledges the funding received from the Community Economic Recovery Infrastructure Program, which allows us to complete these necessary infrastructure upgrades. Having a well-maintained paved parking lot, taxiway and apron increases the property value and enhances the overall look and safety of the airport, making the airport more attractive for future investments and partnerships which generate economic benefits.

General airport operations will not be impacted during construction. Flights will continue as scheduled and the terminal building will remain fully accessible. The asphalt parking lot will be closed for the duration of the project, however, alternative parking is available in the gravel and overflow lots nearby as shown on the map below.

Vehicles left in the asphalt parking lot between May 12 – June 12, 2025 may be moved at the vehicle owner’s expense in accordance with City of Powell River Traffic Bylaw 931, section 13
