City of Powell River Council is considering a proposal to subdivide and rezone two City-owned properties located at 7070 and 7104 Barnet Street. This initiative proposes to subdivide the existing two lots into four lots, and rezone two of the newly created lots from Parks and Playing Fields (PK) and Institutions (NT) to Multiple Family Residential Five (RM5). The intent is to pre-zone the newly created lots as a proactive measure to support and encourage future multi-unit residential development.
Council has determined that proposed Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2816, 2026 is consistent with the Sustainable Official Community Plan and that under Section 464(3) of the Local Government Act holding a public hearing for the proposed amendment bylaw is prohibited. As a result, no public hearing will be held and Council will consider first reading of the bylaw at its May 21, 2026, regular meeting in Council Chambers of City Hall, at 6910 Duncan St., Powell River BC.
Further information can be found in the related staff reports, which can be downloaded from the Documents section to the right. Any party who feels their interests may be affected by the proposed bylaw can make written submission to Council. Submissions may be emailed to info@powellriver.ca, mailed to City Hall, 6910 Duncan Street, Powell River, BC, V8A 1V4, or delivered in person to City Hall. All submissions are published. If received by 5 pm, seven business days before the meeting, submissions will be included in the agenda package. Submissions received after this time, up to 2 pm on the date of the meeting, will be distributed to Council directly in advance of the meeting or on table at the meeting.
