The City of Powell River is pleased to announce that construction of the Mid-Level Connector Multi-Use Pathway will begin in February.
This project is a key component of the City's Active Transportation Network as envisioned in the Sustainable Official Community Plan (Schedule H). This new 1.5-kilometre pathway will provide a safe all-ages and abilities connection between the neighbourhoods of Westview and Townsite.
Project Timeline:
Construction begins: February 18, 2025
Anticipated completion: April 25, 2025 (weather permitting)
Project Goals:
Create a safe active transportation connection between Westview and Townsite
Enable more Brooks Secondary students to get to and from school by active means
Project Features:
Compacted fine crush rock surface
Electrical conduit and light pole bases enabling lighting to be added in the future
Construction Considerations:
The project is not anticipated to cause disruption to services and traffic, but trails may periodically be closed along the project alignment for public safety during the course of construction.
Project Funding:
The Mid-Level Connector Multi-Use Pathway project is funded through a collaborative effort, receiving grants from:
$594,887 from the Powell River Community Forest Ltd.;
$549,975 from CleanBC Communities;
$450,000 from the federal Active Transportation Fund; and
$10,000 from the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC).
